New Army Mandate Leads to $5.6 Million Contract for Oshkosh

OSHKOSH, Wis. — Nov. 19, 2009 — Oshkosh Defense, a division of Oshkosh Corporation (NYSE:OSK), has received a $5.6 million firm fixed-price contract from the U.S. Army for the procurement of 26 egress trainer cabin modules for the Oshkosh MRAP All-Terrain Vehicle (M-ATV) and initial spare parts for a stateside training and certification standard program.

The U.S. Army is now mandated to train all M-ATV crewmembers with the proper skills required to safely and effectively egress the vehicle. The M-ATV cabin modules will be manufactured at the company’s facilities in McConnellsburg, Penn.

“A shift in Army strategy has encouraged M-ATV training to take place stateside versus in theater,” said Andy Hove, Oshkosh Corporation executive vice president and president, Defense. “Oshkosh Defense is supporting this effort by delivering ahead of schedule to make the stateside training possible. By providing simulated preparation in United States, troops bound for Afghanistan will be trained more efficiently and be ready to operate upon arrival in theater.”

To date, Oshkosh has received awards valued at more than $3.2 billion for 6,219 M-ATVs, spare parts and support services. The vehicle provides superior mobility and crew protection for U.S. military operations in Afghanistan’s mountainous terrain and unimproved roads. The company has exceeded the government’s delivery requirements each month, with the first Oshkosh® M-ATVs delivered to Afghanistan on Oct. 1, 2009, just three months after the contract award on June 30, 2009.

Using the Oshkosh TAK-4® independent suspension system, which has undergone more than 400,000 miles of government testing, the Oshkosh M-ATV excels on demanding terrain with a 70 percent off-road profile capability and 16 inches of independent wheel travel. The TAK-4 system is featured on more than 10,000 Medium Tactical Vehicle Replacements (MTVR) used by the U.S. Marine Corps and Navy Seabees, and is being retrofitted on more than 2,400 legacy MRAPs for improved mobility in Afghanistan. The system also is used on the Army’s next-generation Palletized Load System (PLS A1) and the Marine Corps’ Logistics Vehicle System Replacement (LVSR).

Oshkosh Defense teamed with Plasan North America to provide an advanced armor solution for the M-ATV. Plasan also developed the armor system used on more than 5,000 legacy MRAPs and thousands of Oshkosh Armored Cab MTVRs already in theater.
