Oshkosh Defense Celebrates Roll Out of First Logistics Vehicle System Replacement

OSHKOSH, Wis. – June 26, 2009 – Oshkosh Defense, a division of Oshkosh Corporation (NYSE:OSK), today commemorated the first Logistics Vehicle System Replacement (LVSR) to be fielded with a ceremony and reception at its headquarters. Guests included federal and state elected officials, company executives, Oshkosh Defense employees involved in building the vehicles and members of the U.S. Marine Corps The next-generation, heavy-payload vehicle replaces the LVS in the U.S. Marine Corps’ fleet and features upgrades for improved performance and survivability.

The Oshkosh® LVSR will be used by the Marine Corps for the on- and off-road transportation of heavy payloads, such as munitions, fuel, water and heavy equipment. The 10×10 vehicle is equipped with Oshkosh’s patented TAK-4® independent suspension system for superior off-road mobility in the most severe environments. Its maneuverability is increased by four-axle steering capabilities. The LVSR also utilizes Oshkosh’s Command Zone™ electronics system for in-cab diagnostics of the vehicle’s critical systems, including the engine, transmission and brakes.

“Oshkosh Defense is proud to be a part of this significant milestone for the Marine Corps,” said Andy Hove, Oshkosh Corporation executive vice president and president, Defense. “With an industry-leading suspension system, increased crew protection and improved overall performance, the Oshkosh LVSR takes the capabilities of the Marine Corps’ logistics fleet to the next level.”

With improved survivability, mobility and performance, the next-generation LVSR expands on the original Logistics Vehicle System (LVS) produced by Oshkosh in the early 1980s. The LVSR variants produced under this delivery order include cargo, wrecker and fifth-wheel trucks. The original indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity order contract for the LVSR was awarded in June 2006. The contract has a value of $740.2 million based on a production quantity of 1,592. Currently, 663 vehicles have been placed under contract. Full-rate vehicle production began in December 2008 and has been modified to also include add-on armor “B” kits, which are separate from the factory-installed integral (“A” kit) armor, and can be applied in the field.

The LVSR features an on-road payload capacity of 22.5 tons and an off-road payload capacity of 16.5 tons. The vehicle base design includes factory installed armor and is also designed to accept an add-on armor kit for increased crew protection. The LVSR uses a single-source lubrication system for easier maintenance and has a 600-horsepower C15 engine. Vehicle service and support is streamlined by the parts and maintenance commonality the LVSR shares with more than 10,000 fielded Oshkosh Medium Tactical Vehicle Replacements (MTVR).
