Oshkosh Defense Commemorates Delivery of First HEMTT A4 Vehicles

OSHKOSH, Wis. – April 7, 2009 – Oshkosh Defense, a division of Oshkosh Corporation (NYSE:OSK), announced today it has completed the first delivery of the company’s upgraded and more powerful Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Trucks (HEMTT) to the U.S. Army’s 3rd Infantry Division at Fort Stewart, Ga. Oshkosh Defense and the Army commemorated the milestone today with an event at the base.

“Any soldier in the U.S. Army can tell you how much we rely on our HEMTTs for heavy-payload logistics missions,” said Lt. Col. Allen Johnson, Product Manager for Heavy Tactical Vehicles. “The HEMTT A4 and its upgrades significantly improve the performance we get from these vehicles in a multitude of demanding missions.”

The Oshkosh® HEMTT A4, delivered to the Army under the latest three-year Family of Heavy Tactical Vehicles (FHTV) contract, features armor, suspension and powertrain upgrades over the HEMTT A2 for improved performance and survivability. Fort Stewart is the Army’s first recipient of the HEMTT A4 and received the first 39 vehicles shipped under the contract.

“We have worked very hard to get the first A4 delivered on time. Now that we have met that goal with the 3rd Infantry, we look forward to continuing to deliver these vehicles to the other units serving their country around the world,” said Andy Hove, Oshkosh Corporation executive vice president and president, Defense. “We could not have done this without our excellent relationships with our military partners combined with a highly skilled workforce.”

In addition to powertrain and suspension upgrades, the HEMTT A4 is Long Term Armor Strategy (LTAS)-compliant and comes off the assembly line fitted with factory-installed (“A” kit) armor. It also will be ready to receive an add-on (“B” kit) armor appliquí©. Along with the HEMTT A4, Oshkosh will be producing next-generation A1 models of the Palletized Load System (PLS) and Heavy Equipment Transporter (HET) under the FHTV contract.

The Oshkosh HEMTT’s 13-ton payload and off-road capabilities make it the backbone for the U.S. Army’s logistics fleet. Since its introduction in 1985, the HEMTT has helped keep the Army on the move during major conflicts such as Operations Desert Storm and Iraqi Freedom.
