Oshkosh Defense Demonstrates New SandCat™ Vehicle at U.K. Ministry of Defense Event

OSHKOSH, Wis. — July 28, 2008 — Oshkosh Defense, a division of Oshkosh Corporation (NYSE:OSK), demonstrated the SandCat™, its protected multi-role vehicle, at the Defense Vehicle Dynamics (DVD) 2008 event held at the Millbrook proving ground near Bedford, U.K. on June 25 and 26.

The SandCat’s compact structure is built using lightweight, durable materials, making it highly mobile in both combat operations and peacekeeping missions. The vehicle is available in utility and transport variants, carrying four to eight troops, respectively.

“The SandCat is a well-protected, very mobile truck. It is built to equip today’s troops in urban conflict areas,” said John Stoddart, Oshkosh Corporation executive vice president and president, Defense. “The vehicle is built to maintain structural integrity when attacked. In-cabin safeguards are designed to increase troops’ survival after an attack, while the fire-suppression system’s water mist shield allows the crew time to drive out of the danger zone before evacuating the vehicle.”

Armored side panels, doors and firewall sections made from metal composites protect the SandCat against multiple hits from fragments, shrapnel, splinters and direct small-arms ammunition. Further protections, include a ballistic steel roof, armored floor and belly, and wheel zone deflectors. Impact-absorbing seats provide protection and increase troops’ survivability from improvised explosive devices (IEDs), mine blasts and direct fire attacks.

“The SandCat can be easily maintained or repaired through Oshkosh’s worldwide Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) network,” said Stoddart. “We demonstrate quality and service throughout our vehicle’s lifespan because we understand the crucial role Oshkosh vehicles play in saving the lives of those who serve.”
