Oshkosh Defense Displays Broad Vehicle Portfolio for Canadian Armed Forces at CANSEC 2014

Oshkosh MSVS SMP test vehicles undergoing Canadian Government evaluations

OTTAWA, Ontario (May 26, 2014) – Oshkosh Defense, a division of Oshkosh Corporation (NYSE: OSK), is showcasing a broad range of purpose-built military vehicles and services at CANSEC 2014 to support the Canadian Armed Forces’ vehicle modernization efforts. Oshkosh vehicles will be on display at CANSEC May 28-29 at the EY Centre in Ottawa, Ontario.

As CANSEC is underway, Oshkosh Medium Support Vehicle System (MSVS) Standard Military Pattern (SMP) test vehicles are undergoing testing and evaluation with the Canadian Department of National Defence (DND). Oshkosh delivered two MSVS SMP vehicles Ð including the Cargo and Load Handling System variants Ð in January of this year.

“Oshkosh’s primary focus is providing support to our Canadian customers as they evaluate our MSVS SMP vehicles,” said John Lazar, senior director of global strategic initiatives for Oshkosh Defense. “The Oshkosh MSVS SMP is a best-value solution offering advanced military vehicle technologies, robust in-service support spanning six continents and exceptional value for the Canadian economy.”

Oshkosh is leveraging its growing network of more than 700 Canadian suppliers and strategic team members Ð DEW Engineering and Development, General Dynamics Land Systems-Canada and Link Suspensions of Canada-Raydan Division Ð to present a high value, low risk Industrial Regional Benefit (IRB) plan for its MSVS SMP bid. Oshkosh is committed to returning 100 percent or more of its bid value back to the Canadian economy.

The Oshkosh MSVS SMP in-service support (ISS) solution optimizes readiness and reliability, while minimizing life cycle costs by using an electronic information environment (EIE) and logistics system. Oshkosh’s proven life-cycle sustainment support begins at vehicle design and extends across the fleet’s service life. Oshkosh and its strategic team members have successfully conducted life-cycle sustainment with scope, scale and performance periods similar to the MSVS SMP programme. Oshkosh has used its logistics supportability analysis methodology for fleet health management, reducing fleet life-cycle costs by as much as 70 percent.

Oshkosh Vehicles on Display at CANSEC

While the Oshkosh MSVS SMP vehicles are being put through the paces in testing, the company is showcasing an impressive display of light, medium and heavy vehicle platforms suited for future Canadian vehicle modernization programs.

The New M-ATV Light Platform – Oshkosh is debuting a new MRAP All-Terrain Vehicle        (M-ATV) platform at CANSEC. Named M-ATV Light, the platform offers the performance characteristics of the combat-proven M-ATV in a more compact, transportable design, maintaining and enforcing security levels in predominantly off-road environments that require speed, agility and air transportability. The M-ATV Light uses the Oshkosh TAK-4® independent suspension system, which is the industry’s gold standard for off-road mobility for a full range of heavy, medium and light-duty tactical vehicles. The M-ATV Light features enhanced armour protection and an impressive power-to-weight ratio compared to previous generation Special Operations vehicles.

HEMTT A4 Recovery Truck – The Oshkosh Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Truck (HEMTT) A4 Recovery Truck offers heavy-duty power and extreme performance to lift and retrieve disabled vehicles that weigh in excess of 9,000 kg. The vehicle is off-road capable and has the maneuverability to recover vehicles in rugged terrain or challenging conditions, such as those mired in mud, sand, water or snow. The HEMTT platform is currently in use by 10 countries for global logistics missions.

FMTV Enhanced Protection & Mobility Demonstrator – The Oshkosh Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles (FMTV) is a highly reliable platform with 17 variants used by the U.S. Army and National Guard, and global armed forces. Equipped with the Oshkosh TAK-4 independent suspension system, the FMTV Enhanced Protection & Mobility Demonstrator (EPMD) achieves dramatically improved performance – including a 120 percent improvement in wheel travel and a nearly 20 percent improvement in maximum speed – to support logistics operations, relief efforts and unit resupply missions in severe off-road environments.

Oshkosh leadership will be available to discuss the Oshkosh MSVS SMP solution and the company’s broad portfolio of vehicles, technologies and services at CANSEC at indoor booth #1001 and outdoor booth #2029.
