Oshkosh Defense Honors Veteran Service in 110th Harley-Davidson Anniversary Ride and Celebration Benefiting Fisher House

Military Day events included an Oshkosh M-ATV-led motorcycle ride

OSHKOSH, Wis. (Aug. 28, 2013) — Bike enthusiasts across Wisconsin came together today to honor the service of veterans at the 110th Harley-Davidson anniversary celebration. Oshkosh Defense, a division of Oshkosh Corporation (NYSE:OSK) and leading provider of tactical wheeled vehicles, sponsored the event’s Military Day benefiting the Fisher House of Wisconsin. The Fisher House is a non-profit organization that provides lodging and support for military families as their loved ones receive medical care. The Fisher House serves more than 12,000 military families each year.

The event was part of a series of rides in Milwaukee hosted by The House of Harley-Davidson celebrating the 110th anniversary of the founding of Harley-Davidson in 1903. Since the company celebrated its 100th anniversary, service men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces have made great sacrifices in Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom.

“During these past 10 years, our hearts have become heavy as we’ve lost loved ones, and as our military families have carried the considerable burden of long deployments away from home, as well as life-long injuries upon return,” said John Urias, Oshkosh Corporation executive vice president and president of Oshkosh Defense. “I’d like to thank all of our veterans, active duty service men and women, as well as all of the military family members. We are grateful for your courage and indebted for your sacrifice.  You are truly America’s heroes.”

Air Force Maj. Gen. (Ret.) John Borling, and Air National Guard Maj. Gen. Donald Dunbar, adjutant general of Wisconsin and chairman of the Fisher House of Wisconsin, also spoke during the day’s program.

Oshkosh’s sponsorship of the event included a military vehicle display featuring the Oshkosh MRAP All-Terrain Vehicle (M-ATV) and the Family of Medium Tactical Vehicle (FMTV). The M-ATV was fielded in Afghanistan in response to the urgent need to increase troop protection and mobility in the face of growing IED threats. The vehicles have been credited with saving thousands of lives. Since being awarded the FMTV contract in 2010, Oshkosh has delivered more than 21,000 FMTV trucks and trailers and was recently recognized for cost-saving achievements in the program with the 2013 Department of Defense Value Engineering Achievement Award.

Governor Scott Walker of Wisconsin and an Oshkosh M-ATV led the parade of over 1,000 riders. Participants in the event were also treated to a flyover by the Wisconsin Wing of the Commemorative Air Force, a Presentation of the Colors by a Joint Service Color Guard, and a live concert headlined by Casey James.
