Oshkosh Defense Ships Three Additional M-ATV Production Vehicles for Military Evaluation

OSHKOSH, Wis. — May 1, 2009 — Oshkosh Defense, a division of Oshkosh Corporation (NYSE:OSK), has shipped three additional MRAP All Terrain Vehicles (M-ATV) to the U.S. Army’s Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland for military evaluation and is prepared to meet extensive production demands at a moment’s notice.

Oshkosh has leaned forward in its pre-award planning and engineering activities to ensure it will meet the U.S. Armed Services’ urgent need requirement for M-ATVs to be used in the harsh conditions of Afghanistan. With warm production lines and a fully established supply chain, the company can fulfill a requirement of 2,080 to 10,000 M-ATVs, producing several hundred to 1,000 vehicles on a monthly basis.

“We were awarded the contract last night and have shipped three vehicles to Aberdeen today because we are committed to our military partners and helping them meet this urgent need for more mobile, survivable vehicles,” said Andy Hove, Oshkosh Corporation executive vice president and president, Defense. “Our mature and non-developmental M-ATV design is ready for production. Our company’s top priority is delivering to our troops the vehicles they need to succeed.”

In addition to Oshkosh’s thorough production preparations, the company has used its own time and resources to complete to date more than 3,000 miles of independent on- and off-road testing. Oshkosh is conducting more than 10,000 miles of this independent testing on terrain representative of the harsh Afghanistan environment.

The mission-proven Oshkosh® M-ATV meets the survivability and mobility requirements of the Warfighter for Afghanistan. The company’s proprietary TAK-4® independent suspension system has more than 400,000 miles of government testing and is being integrated onto current Mine Resistant Ambush Protected vehicles in the field to improve their off-road mobility. Oshkosh pioneered all-wheel drive for off-road mobility more than 90 years ago and continues to offer the best off-road mobility for tactical wheeled vehicles.

Oshkosh Defense delivers the M-ATV with the survivability, mobility, mission-proven and production-ready solutions required for Afghanistan. It features a combat-tested armor system from Plasan North America for superior crew protection, and a combat-proven Oshkosh MTVR chassis, which has been successfully operating for many years in the most difficult off-road missions in Iraq, Afghanistan and around the world.
