OSHKOSH, Wis. — May 14, 2009 — Oshkosh Defense, a division of Oshkosh Corporation (NYSE:OSK), will showcase its highly armored and extremely mobile MRAP-All Terrain Vehicle (M-ATV) on Monday May 18, 2009, in Washington D.C. at the company’s M-ATV Media Day. The event will take place from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. EDT at the Grand Hyatt parking lot, 900 9th Street N.W., in Washington D.C.
Company leadership will be on hand to discuss how the Oshkosh M-ATV meets the urgent need requirement for a vehicle that provides MRAP-level armor protection and off-road mobility. Oshkosh Defense will also elaborate on pre-award production efforts and independent testing, as well as the company’s TAK-4® independent suspension system offered on this vehicle.
The TAK-4 system provides the Oshkosh M-ATV with a 70 percent off-road mission profile and allows it to thrive in harsh terrain. Oshkosh recently received a contract to retrofit more than 1,500 existing MRAPs with the Oshkosh advanced TAK-4 independent suspension system. The upgrades will enable these MRAPs to be used off-road in the arduous environment of Afghanistan. Oshkosh is also working with the government and other original MRAP manufacturers to increase the off-road mobility of existing MRAP vehicles.
“This event will provide further insight into our vehicle, its features and how it best meets the needs of the U.S. soldiers and Marines conducting operations on rugged battlefields,” said Andy Hove, Oshkosh Corporation executive vice president and president, Defense. “Our M-ATV was designed using theater-tested components and technologies that have saved lives and improved off-road fleet mobility in Iraq and Afghanistan.”
The military is expected to order between 2,080 and 10,000 M-ATVs. On April 30, Oshkosh was awarded an indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract for the delivery of three additional production-ready vehicles to Aberdeen Test Center for further military testing. Oshkosh continues to independently conduct on- and off-road durability testing of its M-ATV and has so far exceeded 6,000 miles.
Oshkosh Defense delivers the M-ATV with the survivability, mobility, mission-proven and production-ready solutions required for Afghanistan. The vehicle’s TAK-4 system is the only proven and ready M-ATV independent suspension system designed for off-road operations, and it has undergone more than 400,000 miles of government testing.
