OSHKOSH, WIS. (December 21, 2001) – Oshkosh Truck Corporation [NASDAQ: OTRKB] announced today that the company has won a contract to supply more than 1,200 parts and components to the U.S. Army for its Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles (FMTV). Designed to provide a higher level of service for the Army, the parts contract was awarded by the Defense Supply Center Columbus. The contract has a potential value of $13 million.
This is Oshkosh’s first major program to support tactical defense vehicles manufactured by another company. In addition to becoming a prime supplier for FMTV parts, Oshkosh is currently competing for a contract, known as a re-buy program, to begin producing the FMTV for the U.S. Army.
Oshkosh has implemented a parts ordering and tracking system that helps reduce Army costs and increase vehicle readiness. Soldiers are able to order parts electronically, directly from the field. To speed delivery, Oshkosh is able to exchange electronic data directly with the Department of Defense. Oshkosh is already managing a similar, but full-scale program called the Contractor Logistics Support program for the U.S. Marine Corps’ new medium truck fleet.
“Oshkosh is committed to providing unparalleled service and parts support because we know our customers’ mission may depend on it. We’ve made a major corporate investment to develop seamless on-line parts ordering and support for the Department of Defense. Our system is operator friendly, provides unequaled parts availability and promises rapid delivery through our global service network,” said Robert G. Bohn, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Oshkosh.
