Oshkosh Truck Recognized for Ownership Cost Reduction on Marine Corp Contract

OSHKOSH, WIS. (November 3, 2000) – Oshkosh Truck Corporation [NASDAQ: OTRKB] was recognized today by the Department of Defense for reduction of total ownership cost on the Medium Tactical Vehicle Replacement (MTVR) contract for the U.S. Marine Corp. On behalf of Undersecretary of Defense Jacques S. Gansler, Brigadier General James M. Feigley, commander of Marine Corps System Command, presented a certificate to Robert G. Bohn, chairman, chief executive, and president of Oshkosh Truck.

The recognition was for Oshkosh’s work, as a part of a team effort with the U.S. Army Tank Automotive and Armament Command and the U.S. Marine Corps, on the MTVR program. The program has been distinguished as a leader in the Department of Defense’s drive to maintain and improve system readiness while reducing total system ownership costs. The award also recognized the MTVR team’s innovative approach to improving readiness, maintainability, and supportability.

“At Oshkosh, we work every day to provide the best value, best performance and best service for the Department of Defense, the U.S. forces who use our equipment, and U.S. taxpayers. It’s a proud moment for our company and employees to be recognized for our role in meeting the twenty-first century challenges to national security,” said Bohn.

The MTVR program is the largest in Oshkosh’s history, with a potential value of $1.2 billion. The MTVRs replace the Marine Corps’ aging fleet of M809 and M939 transport vehicles. Carrying personnel and supplies for battle, or food and emergency supplies in peacekeeping missions, the truck will fill the transportation mobility gap created by the older medium-payload vehicles. The MTVR is deployed rapidly anywhere in the world by C-130 airplane or by ships.
