OSHKOSH, Wis. (July 30, 2010) — The Armed Forces Foundation (AFF) and Oshkosh Defense, a division of Oshkosh Corporation (NYSE:OSK), today presented two servicemen with the Rumble With a Cause sweepstakes grand prizes. The winners, U.S. Army Staff Sgt. David Dingman and retired U.S. Marine Corps Staff Sgt. Skipper Lee Campbell, both live in Texas and share a background of service to their country. AFF with Oshkosh sponsored the nationwide sweepstakes, which raised more than $150,000 to support the AFF and its many programs available to U.S. military members and their families.
“Our sincere thanks to our sweepstakes winners as well as the nearly 90,000 individuals, businesses and organizations from all 50 states who contributed to the AFF to help U.S. military members and their families,” said Andy Hove, Oshkosh Corporation executive vice president and president, Oshkosh Defense. “From personnel at military events to sports fans at football games, there was a vast range of people who made donations to help those who risk their lives to keep our country safe. The response was inspiring and raised funds for the AFF to continue serving military families through their Family Assistance and Morale, Welfare and Recreation programs.”
Dingman received the “American Soldier” motorcycle in an event at the American Legion in his hometown of Killeen, Texas. Dingman’s nearly 20 years of military experience has included a deployment to Iraq for Operation Iraqi Freedom and stations in South Korea, Hawaii, Kansas and California. He is currently stationed with HHC 2-12 Cavalry 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division at Fort Hood in Texas. He saw first-hand the work of organizations like the AFF while he was deployed in Iraq and received care packages with his fellow soldiers.
Campbell, a retired 14-year veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps from Seguin, Texas, received the “Semper Fidelis” motorcycle at an event in New Braunfels, Texas. Campbell served in Iraq during Operation Desert Storm and visited more than 60 countries before retiring from the Marines in 1994. During his time with a local chapter of a Texas biking club, the San Jacinto High Rollers, Campbell became inspired to become active in charitable causes. In addition to Rumble With a Cause, he purchased a brick at the National Museum of the Marine Corps and helped a variety of Texas organizations with the High Rollers.
The AFF joined Oshkosh Defense to deliver the custom-painted, grand-prize motorcycles to the winners at events in their hometown communities. With the support of Oshkosh, the AFF launched the sweepstakes in October and conducted 14 events around the country to raise funds. Entries also came in through the mail, online and by text message.
Donations raised through the sweepstakes will support the AFF and its wide range of assistance, including living expenses, funeral arrangements, housing improvements and counseling. For every dollar contributed, the AFF returns 94 cents to the troops and families it serves. Its Operation Caring Classroom reaches approximately 55,000 students annually to help build awareness, appreciation and support among children for military families. The AFF also has covered more than 3,000 nights of free family lodging at the at the National Naval Medical Center’s Navy Lodge and has provided more than 500 outdoor sports events for veterans nationwide.
