National Guard Unit from Waukesha, Wisconsin, Coming Home for the Holidays

OSHKOSH, WIS. (December 19, 2003) – Members of the Wisconsin National Guard’s Company B, 118th Medical Battalion will come home unexpectedly for Christmas. Company B is based in Waukesha, Wis., and was deployed to Fort Drum, N.Y, for mobilization processing and additional training prior to a one-year deployment to Iraq. Instead of spending the holidays away from home, the company will travel by motor coach to Wisconsin to spend four days with family and friends.

About 70 members of Company B will arrive at the National Guard Armory, 311 Walton Ave., Waukesha, Wis., at 7 a.m. on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24.

Oshkosh Truck Corporation agreed to sponsor the transportation to make it possible for this local Guard unit to travel home.

“We’re so proud of the commitment and service that the National Guard gives to our country,” said Robert G. Bohn, Oshkosh’s chairman, president and chief executive officer. “Since armies first went to war, the loneliness of being away from the family has been one of the hardest parts for any solider to endure. For these soldiers from our area, that represent our great country, we are pleased to show our appreciation and support by bringing them home this holiday season.”

The 118th Medical Battalion provides non-surgical medical care and area medical evacuation. The unit is made up of doctors, nurses, medics, support personnel and specialized medical assets.
