Oshkosh Defense sponsors award to service members that demonstrate exemplary pride, dedication and courage
OSHKOSH, Wis. (July 20, 2012) — For the third consecutive year, Oshkosh Defense, a division of Oshkosh Corporation (NYSE:OSK), supported the Military Times Service Members of the Year Awards. The 2012 Awards Ceremony, held Thursday at the Capitol Hill Cannon House Office Building in Washington, D.C, honors service members who demonstrate exemplary pride, dedication and courage.
“Role model, mentor, respected leader – these are some of the words used to describe the outstanding men and women being honored,” said John Urias, executive vice president, Oshkosh Corporation and president, Oshkosh Defense. “While performing exceptionally well in their respective fields as they serve our country, they also actively serve as leaders in their communities and in volunteer organizations. We’re proud to support the Service Members of the Year Awards and honor their accomplishments.”
The Service Members of the Year Awards were established in 2001 to highlight exemplary achievement by a service member beyond the call of duty. Recipients are also selected based on their high level of professionalism, their concern for fellow service members and their commitment to community service.
This year’s winners include Soldier of the Year Sergeant Steven B. Davidson, Marine of the Year Staff Sergeant Jessie C. McDonald, Sailor of the Year HM1(SW) Maria T. Decena-Taylor, Airman of the Year Master Sergeant Brandon J. Lambert and Coast Guardsman of the Year Ensign Stacy L. Smith. The winners were honored at the ceremony in the presence of officials from their commands, members of Congress and senior Pentagon officials.
Oshkosh Defense has a long-standing history of supporting military members, both in the field and when they return, and their families through charitable giving and program support. The company has partnered with organizations such as Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS), Fisher House Foundation, Disabled Sports USA/Wounded Warfighter Program, Military Child Education Coalition and others.
