Oshkosh Defense Supports Families of Fallen Heroes in Collaboration with TAPS

Oshkosh contributes to the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors and builds awareness via social media

OSHKOSH, Wis. (Oct. 14, 2014) Oshkosh Defense, an Oshkosh Corporation (NYSE:OSK) company, presented a check for $100,000 and launched a new social media campaign to support the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS) at the Association of the U.S. Army (AUSA) 2014 Annual Meeting and Exposition in Washington, D.C.

The contribution was raised through a signature campaign held at trade shows and events nationwide in fiscal year 2014. Oshkosh pledged to donate $2 for each signature until reaching its goal of $100,000.

Oshkosh Defense announced at AUSA it would be supporting TAPS for a fourth consecutive year with another $100,000 campaign objective for fiscal year 2015. However, instead of a signature wall, Oshkosh is taking a social media approach to allow more people to engage in the effort. Oshkosh is hosting a TAPS “selfie wall” at its AUSA booth #1925 to launch its new TAPS social media campaign. When visitors share their photos on social media with the hashtag #Oshkosh4TAPS, Oshkosh Defense will donate $2 to TAPS until we reach our goal of $100,000.

You don’t have to be at AUSA to show your support for TAPS. Simply “Like” the Supporting Families of Our Fallen Heroes page on Facebook and Oshkosh will donate $2 to TAPS.

“TAPS is an amazing organization that inspires hope and healing during military families’ most challenging times,” said Jenn Christiansen, vice president of business development at Oshkosh Defense. “We are proud to work with TAPS and consider it an honor to support the families of our nation’s fallen heroes. We invite everyone to join our social media campaign to show support for TAPS families.”

TAPS provides comfort and care to anyone who has suffered the loss of a military loved one. Founded in 1994, the organization has helped more than 50,000 surviving family members and friends through comprehensive services and programs, including case work assistance, emotional support, and grief and trauma resources.

“TAPS is so grateful for Oshkosh Defense’s longstanding support,” said TAPS Founder and President Bonnie Carroll. “Because of the contributions, TAPS is able to provide comfort and care to military families who have suffered the death of a loved one who served our country. These brave families know that they are not alone in coping with their losses and can find hope and healing. Thank you Oshkosh Defense for standing with us in supporting our military families.”

TAPS has held an annual National Military Survivor Seminar and Good Grief camp since 1994. Regional Survivor Seminars and Good Grief camps also are held at locations across the country. In August, TAPS held its second Wisconsin seminar with the support of Oshkosh.

Oshkosh Defense has a long-standing history of supporting military members, both in the field and back at home, and their families through charitable giving and program support. The company has partnered with organizations such as TAPS, Disabled Sports USA – Warfighter Sports, the Fisher House Foundation, and many others.
