Oshkosh To Deliver Common Bridge Transporter HEMTT Trucks To North Dakota National Guard

OSHKOSH, WIS. (November 1, 2002) – Oshkosh Truck Corporation [NYSE: OSK], a leading manufacturer of specialty trucks and truck bodies, announced today that it will deliver Common Bridge Transporters (CBT) based on the Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Truck (HEMTT) to the North Dakota Army National Guard tomorrow. In a ceremony to be held on the steps of the state capitol in Bismarck, Robert G. Bohn, Oshkosh chairman, president and chief executive officer, will present six new trucks to Governor John Hoeven and to Major General Michael Haugen, Adjutant General for the state. Also scheduled to attend is Senator Byron Dorgan.

“We’re honored to roll out the U.S. Army’s newest engineer equipment to the North Dakota National Guard. In this time of global instability, the Guard is a critical force for homeland defense, and one we depend on. We are proud that men and women of the 957th Engineer Company can now count on Oshkosh and our uniquely capable, uniquely powerful pieces of equipment to fulfill their mission,” said Bohn.

The North Dakota National Guard 957th Engineer Company, based in Bismarck, transports and deploys bridging units to move troops, equipment and supplies across bodies of water. It is among the first National Guard units in the nation to be equipped with these vehicles and will ultimately take delivery of 56 HEMTT-based CBTs and 32 Oshkosh Palletized Load System trailers.

The HEMTT-based CBT was developed by Oshkosh to transport and deploy bridges and associated equipment needed by Army engineering companies. It meets the tactical mission requirements of the National Guard, U.S. Army and U.S. Army Reserve. It is equipped with the same load handling system as the revolutionary Oshkosh Palletized Load System vehicle, allowing these trucks to be loaded and unloaded without additional material handling equipment.

This 8×8 truck features a 445-horsepower electronic engine and five-speed automatic transmission. It can ford four feet of water, climb 60-percent grades and can be transported by C-130 aircraft wherever the mission demands.

Oshkosh Truck Corporation [NYSE: OSK] is a leading manufacturer of specialty trucks and truck bodies for the defense, fire and emergency, concrete placement and refuse hauling markets. Oshkosh Truck is a Fortune 1000 company with products marketed under the Oshkosh, Pierce, McNeilus, Medtec, Geesink and Norba brand names.
