OSHKOSH, Wis. (November 2, 2017) – Oshkosh Defense, LLC, an Oshkosh Corporation (NYSE: OSK) company, announced today that the U.S. Marine Corps has awarded a delivery order valued at more than $19 million for an additional 31 P-19R Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) vehicles.
Oshkosh began delivering the first P-19Rs in June of 2017 and in total, Oshkosh has received orders for 160 P-19R vehicles for deliveries through 2019.
“The Marine Corps has been using the legacy Oshkosh-manufactured P-19A ARFF vehicle for over 30 years,” said Pat Williams, Vice President and General Manager of Army and Marine Corps Programs at Oshkosh Defense. “While the P-19A has proven reliable and effective across those three decades of service, the Marine Corps is now in need of a vehicle replacement with advanced firefighting capabilities and improved off-road mobility. Oshkosh Defense is delivering this capability in the P-19R ARFF vehicle, utilizing our extensive product and engineering expertise from across our Oshkosh Corporation segments.”
The P-19R vehicle design is based on the combat-proven Oshkosh Logistics Vehicle System Replacement (LVSR) platform and the technologically advanced Striker firefighting systems from Oshkosh Airport Products. The P-19R provides unparalleled off-road mobility, advanced firefighting capabilities and the latest in military-class vehicle technologies.
Advanced Off-Road Mobility
The P-19R delivers improved off-road mobility with the inclusion of the Oshkosh TAK-4® independent suspension system, giving Marines exceptional all-terrain performance for off-runway response situations.
The TAK-4 system has been proven on more than 20,000 military-class vehicles, including Marine Corps vehicles such as the Oshkosh LVSR, the Medium Tactical Vehicle Replacement (MTVR) and the MRAP All-Terrain Vehicle (M-ATV). The commonality of the TAK-4 system and other components across Oshkosh’s Marine Corps platforms results in lower life-cycle costs, a reduced logistics footprint and simplified maintenance.
Improved Firefighting Capability
The P-19R meets the requirements of the contract version of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 414 standard, which sets the design, performance, and acceptance criteria for ARFF vehicles. In addition, the integrated surrogate foam system reduces foam consumption, which in turn reduces both the environmental impact and the operating costs of foam system maintenance and routine validation. Further, the P-19R’s next-generation water turrets, with infinitely variable electronic speed control, improve the firefighters’ ability to accurately place the agent on the intended target.
Proven Military-Grade Technology
The Oshkosh P-19R is equipped with Oshkosh’s Command Zone, an integrated control and diagnostics system, also used on combat-proven vehicles like the LSVR. The Command Zone system provides access to vital vehicle information and allows Marines to repair and troubleshoot vehicles, view real-time performance data and remotely access diagnostics information. It also provides system integration and automation to increase a firefighting crew’s situational awareness and help them carry out missions.
